“LOCKDOWN BABY”

“What a year we’ve had!” they say to us,

Of the pandemic misery.

They peer at us, from behind blue masks:

“Lockdown baby, is she?”

I want to roll my tired eyes;

We’ve heard it all before.

But I smile and nod, though I want to say:

“No! She is so much more!”

‘What a year we’ve had?’ I muse to myself,

Reflecting on the time gone by.

All we’ve done! And all you’ve learnt!

Gone past in the blink of an eye.

Oh the walks we’ve had and the ducks we’ve seen!

Oh the places we’ve explored!

All the fun we’ve had together at home,

No one bothering us at our door.

We’ve paddled in the pool, we’ve counted the leaves,

We’ve had hours of sensory play.

We’ve read book after book & sung song after song!

There’s been laughter every day.

All the cuddles we’ve had! All the hours we’ve spent

Playing with every toy.

We’ve danced around, we’ve jumped about.

Every day has been filled with joy!

You’ve had all our love, you’ve had all our time,

You’ve had everything you could need!

For this is all you’ve ever known.

What a year we’ve had, indeed!
