Emma Whyte

On 17th March 2020 I was sent to work from home after announcing my pregnancy and that is what I would now say was my last day of “normality”. As restrictions are beginning to ease I now have a new normal to learn, explore and love to live in!

In April 2020 when I was 13 weeks pregnant, I joined a local pregnancy yoga class “online for the time being”. Before I knew it I’d graduated from the class, without having met any of the group, or the instructor in real life! Thankfully the postnatal classes did eventually move to in person and I (well we!) was able to meet and bond with a fantastic group of strong women who had all become mothers during lockdown.

Looking back to the start of the pandemic and what was the beginning of my pregnancy too, I don’t think anyone expected it to last for so long. It’s quite strange to look at pre and post pregnancy photos which have the similarity of both being taken during a time of restrictions.

This week we graduate from postnatal yoga as Penny is starting to crawl. We will both miss the classes so much, and will be forever thankful for the lifeline that it provided during lockdown. it really does feel like a real end of a era, and hopefully the beginning of the end of all the restrictions we’ve had to learn to live with. Our lovely instructor Hazell is also finishing teaching this week to go on her maternity leave, here’s hoping her journey will be a very different one!
